Eh?
EVE is one of the best MMO's out. It has an inbuilt IQ checker (the 4-6 hour training) which is great.

It has an interesting concept and it far outlasted E&B, but not really my cup of tea.
I remember once hearing that most people would limited to frigates and crusiers but from what I've been hearing it's all about battleships and dreadnaughts and ships that can take out stations, which can destroy battleships in one or two hits or something crazy like that.

EVE has been out for a while, but only recently i have been hearing a lot about it. Television ads and such... I am a bit interested in it, yet, I don't like paying monthly fees.

I've heard about some legendary jackassery going on in that game. Nothing that GW drama could even come close to.

It's true.
The devs allow you to scam other people etc, because they want it to be realistic and be true SPACE PIRACY etc. You really can't trust anybody. I think the most epic example was someone set up a huge trust fund with one of his actual friends in-game, got a TON OF PEOPLE and whole alliances to add to it, then he just ran with the money when it was in like the billions of $. Like he betrayed his own friend too he just kept all the money.
i lol'd so hard.

I read something about some guy acquiring a special spaceship or something, then his Corporation (?) leader stole it (how?????) and kicked the guy from the corporation.
That's just retarded.

EvE has indeed been out for a long time. The surprising thing about it is that its playerbase has slowly but steadily increased over time, this is a phenomenon that i have never seen happen in any other online game over the timeframe we are talking about.
It keeps evolving the rules keep changing for the sake of "balance" yes but also for the sake of "fun". Now an ever growing player pool means its fulfilling the following condition:
Your game is (in general) keeping its vets while managing to carter for the scrubs (those who pass the tutorial).
This mean expanding and increasing interacting with the gameworld, flexible gameplay, involved community, rich lore and lastly but not least; evolving technology (game keeps on looking better, network improving).
however doing those things brings on a myriad of issues that also need to be dealt with when they happen. Something which i feel EvE has managed to do admirably...and other games not so admirably.
uh...im not an EvE fanboy btw. Yes i like the game (played on and off for many years) but in all honesty that game is unique.
And to the comments above, that is why GW drama is just "drama" and EvE real hard to the core RPG. The lack of set rules FORCES people to participate in one way or another, to act like the role they tend to take when protected by the anonymous immunity that the internet provides...and it has consequences.

I don't think it has much to do with "internet anonymity" and more about the type of game EVE wants to be: a breed of "hardcore" that's so intense and intended that it borders the line between "game" and "simulation".

There was a story about when they first brought out the biggest space ships ( titans or some shit) and they were really really expensive, only like 10 or so people could afford one. So this corporation/alliance/w.e waited until one of the dudes who had one logged offline, then went searching throughout the whole of space and blew it to pieces.
As previously stated, full of idiots.

I suggest you refrain from commenting on EvE, you clearly dont know what you are talking about and your trolling is pathetic.

To be honest Sleeper, I played EVE for a bit and Jiggles is pretty spot on. You can't make a sandbox simulation without any sort of police body. The devs allow ridiculous shit to go down; the only way to be completely secure in that game is to play all the time, surround yourself with an army of people who play as much as you, make sure you're the head of your corporation, and don't trust anyone.
If not...
Your corp leader can steal your shit
Your allies will turn on you for laughs, then turn on themselves
Your enemies will wait for you to log off and wreck you
The Megathron Federate Issue incident wasn't funny or mature. In a game like EVE with such a time investment, something like that shouldn't be allowed to happen.

building a Titan is NOT a solo player endevour, its a Corporate/Alliance investment. Heck most of the time the pilot is not the actual "owner" of these ships since the skills to manufacture them are not the same to fly them.
Titans are not made for a soloplayer to go "i r leet hur hur" they are used to protect and extend corp Influence.
building one however, means that you (and your corp AND your alliance) make yourselves a threat and therefore target to literally anyone.
If the Titan can be taken out via espionage, sabotage, corp infiltration, stolen or full frontal assault then so be it. If the player looses his ship because his corp is riddled with backstabbers, traitors, thieves and what-nots then im sorry but that player should have never left it there in the first place.
its totally possible to be a 100% carebear in eve, never pvping, never joining a corp never getting shit stolen...just play by CONCORD rules in >0.5 but why do that in a world where anything goes?

So, if i put hundreds upon hundreads of hours into getting a ship for my corp, its okay for someone to just take it away in about a second. Or wait until li log off to blow it up because theyre a coward and dont want their crappier ships blew up? Sounds amazing.
Not.

Well, yes, actually. It's the type of game where that sort of thing is supposed to happen. It's the point of the game.
Of course, not everyone likes that sort of thing. I, for example, drool at every beautiful video of the game I see, but won't actually touch the game with a 10 foot pole.
